About Sofa Medic – Sofa & Furniture Repair Specialists in the North East
A family-run team bringing over 30 years of hands-on furniture repair and restoration experience.
Allan and Angela, husband and wife, work alongside their son Oliver, daughter-in-law Zoe and we have a ‘Saturday Girl’ niece, Beth, thrown in for good measure!
Allan started out in 1999 with Allwoods French Polishing, specialising in wood restoration. We later took on the Furniture Medic franchise, building up years of experience across all areas of furniture repair.
Today, Sofa Medic brings everything together — from upholstery and leather repairs to structural work, recliners, and foam.
We still work alongside Allwoods for French polishing and wood restoration, and all of our commercial work is carried out through Triple R Damage Solutions.
It’s just us, doing what we do best — repairing and restoring furniture properly.
Angela
Angela is the friendly voice at the end of the phone and keeps everything organised behind the scenes, overseeing the day-to-day running of the business. With a background in teaching, she brings strong organisation and people skills to her role, looking after finance, customer service and contract management, while also getting hands-on with sewing and upholstery. Trained from scratch over the last ten years, she is now a fully qualified, time-served upholsterer.
Allan
Allan started the business and has been a French polisher since leaving school. He’s an absolute perfectionist with incredible attention to detail — you might find cheaper, but you won’t find better. He’s your go-to for anything wood or leather, and his favourite saying is, “You get a great job, not a rushed job.”
Zoe
Zoe is our receptionist, admin assistant and up-and-coming upholsterer. She’s friendly, personable and always happy to help, often stepping in when Angela isn’t around, and she also manages our Guardsman contract for Triple R. With a degree and Master’s in art and design and a natural artistic flair, she’s excited to explore the design side of upholstery and create truly unique bespoke pieces.
Oliver
Oliver has been with us since 2021 and specialises in foam replacements, structural repairs, and electric and manual recliners. A man of few words with great stature (and yes — he really is 6ft 7!), he consistently gets great feedback from our customers. He is also a fully qualified, time-served upholsterer.
Beth
Beth is part of our Saturday team and a real whizz at stripping furniture. She’s a fast worker and a quick learner, always getting stuck in and helping wherever she’s needed. Beth is with us while she completes her college studies, and although we’d love to keep her, she’ll be moving on to her next chapter once she finishes her course.
